The Economic Council

Director General Message

With the support and guidance of our leadership, the Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development (ADCED) was established in 2006 as an advisory body specialized in submitting economic recommendations, and proposing policies, based on the objective and profound study of the Emirate's economic realities. Since its establishment, ADCED has been keen to assume a pioneering role in developing the economy of Abu Dhabi, in cooperation and coordination with the General Secretariat of the Executive Council and the Department of Economic Development. The Economic Vision 2030 Abu Dhabi, co-authored by ADCED, reflects the ambition and aspirations of the Abu Dhabi Government.

No doubt, the realization of this vision is a significant challenge, and facing this challenge requires concerted efforts between the public and private sectors. One of ADCED's first tasks has been to act as a platform between the representatives of the two sectors. In this context, ADCED has been engaged in organizing specialized meetings and seminars to listen attentively to the representatives of the private sector, and to develop jointly recommendations and proposals to be submitted to decision-makers for appropriate action, with a view of overcoming the difficulties that may face the private sector in Abu Dhabi.

The events of the last few years have underscored the importance of an economy that is based on solid foundations, and this is what Abu Dhabi economy has demonstrated clearly. It has been growing smoothly and steadily, despite the recent global economic crisis. We have a vital economy and we are blessed with many natural resources. However, our economy is no longer dependent on natural resources as a sole source of wealth and growth, thanks to the strategic vision of our wise leadership to diversify sources of income and to build a strong, sustainable, and knowledge-based economy.

I would like to stress here our determination to move forward in order to achieve further progress and success for our dear homeland. We also renew our vow to work hard and continuously to achieve the goals and objectives of the strategic vision of our wise leadership to build an advanced economy based on its own strengths. In this, we are guided and inspired by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, who said: "Building man is the true wealth of this country before and after oil, and the interest of the nation is the goal for which we work day and night."
